The voice that holds the room together
Wedding emcee and anchoring
An emcee is the only vendor at a Tamil wedding whose job is the guest's experience of time. A good one keeps a 900-guest reception moving without ever sounding as though it is being moved; a poor one turns the evening into a sequence of unexplained waits.
Inai Event Management provides bilingual Tamil–English wedding emcees and event anchors across Tamil Nadu, based in Chennai. Our emcees host receptions, sangeet and mehendi evenings, muhurtham narration, corporate functions and milestone celebrations, working from a written run of show agreed with the family before the day.
Every Inai emcee booking includes a pre-event briefing call, a scripted run of show shared with the venue and the other vendors, name and pronunciation checks for every person called to stage, and a live cue relationship with the DJ, the photography team and the catering floor — so announcements land on time rather than whenever someone remembers.
Scope
What a booking includes
Everything below is in scope by default. You remove what you do not need and the quote moves — rather than discovering an exclusion after the contract.
- Pre-event briefing call with the couple and both families
- A written run of show, shared with the venue and every vendor 72 hours ahead
- Bilingual delivery — Tamil, English, or a blend calibrated to your guest list
- Name and pronunciation list, verified with the families before the day
- Stage management: who stands where, who is called next, who is still in the green room
- Live cueing with the DJ, photo–video team and catering floor
- Kalyanam-specific segments: muhurtham narration, mangalyam explanation for out-of-town guests, oonjal and nalangu hosting
- Reception formats: felicitation flow, family introductions, first-dance or couple-entry build-up
- Sangeet and mehendi hosting, including games, performance ordering and audience warm-up
- Corporate and inauguration compering, product launches and award nights
- Backup emcee identified and briefed for every confirmed booking
The gap
Why this usually goes wrong
What usually happens
An anchor is booked by the hour through a directory, meets the family for the first time in the green room, and improvises from a phone note. Names are mispronounced, the muhurtham is narrated for a Tamil-speaking room in English only, and the DJ finds out about the couple entry as it begins.
What Inai does
The emcee is assigned at booking, joins a briefing call, and writes the run of show that the DJ, photo team and stall crew all work from. Because those teams are also ours, a cue change on the day travels in one message rather than four.
Answers
Wedding Emcee & Anchoring — your questions
How much does a wedding emcee cost in Chennai?
Emcee fees in Chennai vary with the number of functions, the language brief and how long the emcee is on site. Inai quotes per function after a briefing call rather than publishing a rate card, because a two-hour reception host and a full-day muhurtham-plus-reception engagement are different jobs. Call +91 98849 60870 or write to Egnitha@inaievents.in for a quote against your actual programme.
Do you provide Tamil-speaking wedding anchors?
Yes. Bilingual Tamil–English hosting is our default for Tamil Nadu weddings. We calibrate the blend to your guest list — a Chennai reception with relatives flying in from the Gulf and the US is hosted differently from a Madurai muhurtham where the room is almost entirely Tamil-speaking.
How far in advance should we book an emcee?
For peak Tamil wedding months — the Thai, Panguni, Aavani and Maargazhi-adjacent muhurtham windows — book eight to twelve weeks ahead. Off-peak dates can often be confirmed in two to three weeks. Sangeet-only or reception-only bookings are usually easier to place late than full multi-function engagements.
Can the same emcee host the muhurtham and the reception?
Yes, and we recommend it. Continuity matters more than most families expect: an emcee who narrated the morning muhurtham already knows the family names, the elders to felicitate and the pronunciations, and carries that into the evening without a second briefing.
Do you host sangeet games and performances?
Yes. Sangeet hosting includes ordering the performance line-up so energy builds rather than sags, running audience games that work for a mixed-age Tamil family crowd, and keeping the schedule tight enough that dinner is not served at midnight.
Will the emcee coordinate with our other vendors?
Always. The emcee's run of show is the document the DJ, photographers and stall team work from. When you book emcee, DJ and photography together from Inai, that coordination is internal rather than a chain of WhatsApp messages between strangers.
Do you provide female emcees?
Yes. We assign emcees by fit with the brief — language, register, function type and the family's preference — and can present options for either.
Do you host corporate events as well as weddings?
Yes. Product launches, inaugurations, annual days, award nights and dealer meets across Tamil Nadu. The discipline is the same: a written run of show, rehearsed cues and a host who has actually read the agenda.

We come back with questions before we come back with a number. That is usually the point at which families realise the quote is going to match the wedding.
